CANDIDATES FILE

A ritual of Illinois politics is candidates driving (usually) from across the state to Springfield to be part of the hoopla of filing petitions on the first day possible to run for nomination in March. And for it is usually a brisk to bitterly cold day which adds to the theater.

It appears we will see a few competitive races for U.S. Congress, highlighted by a primary downstate between Republican incumbent U.S. Rep. Mike Bost and former gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey. In the Chicago TV market, a primary is also being assembled featuring incumbent U.S. Rep. Danny Davis and Chicago City Clerk Melissa Conyers Ervin.

COLD DOESN’T DETER CANDIDATES

Based on candidate filings there will also be a dozen or so competitive primary races for the Illinois House and Senate in March.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker recently contributed to and supported several progressive ballot measures in other states, while also touting the economic progress the state has made since 2019 while he’s been governor.
