TREASURER TOUTS STUDENT LOAN PLAN
Illinois Treasurer Michael Frerichs announced he is using his statutory authority to put up to 5% of the state’s investment portfolio into a NFP vehicle to provide low-cost student loans:
“We firmly believe the best way to pay for college is investing early in a college savings plan,” Frerichs said. “We also know that many families need to rely upon borrowing to pay for some costs associated with college or trade school. That is why we are pleased to partner with ISL Education Lending, a nonprofit organization that has been in this market for 40 years.”

NEW SENATOR APPOINTED
City of Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson reached into the Illinois State Senate to bring former Sentator Cristina Pacione Zayas into a top spot in his administration. That created a vacancy for local political leaders to fill, and they did so Monday by appointing school teacher Natalie Toro to the position. Before the oath of office could even be administered, progressive forces in the district promised a primary fight in March.
