IVCA ally Illinois State Representative Margaret Croke is in the race for Illinois Comptroller to succeed Susana Mendoza, who is not running for Comptroller but is a likely candidate for Mayor of Chicago. Rep. Croke represents neighborhoods on the lakefront north of the Loop and worked for Governor JB Pritzker’s administration prior to running for the Illinois House. She was slated by the Illinois Democratic Party as its choice for the position, with Illinois State Senator Karina Villa and Lake County Treasurer Holly Kim among other potential opponents. The democrats did not slate in the open race for U.S. Senate which features Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton and U.S. Congress members Raja Krishnamoorthi and Robin Kelly. Lt. Gov. Stratton has announced endorsements from leaders in the Illinois General Assembly, but Krishnamoorthi has a $20M lead in fundraising.

LEGSILATURE IN RECESS
The Illinois General Assembly is in recess with no plans to return until the October Veto Session. Federal budget bills and the looming transit funding challenge in Illinois have both earned sporadic calls for a special session. For now, the consensus is to wait and see what impacts the federal action will or won’t have, and an agreement which could not be reached by the end of May on transit still has work to be done. The legislature has sent to the governor numerous bills for his signature, including a pension bill and a torts bill which he is being urged by some to veto:
